How listings are vetted

  1. 1

    Start from the guides

Tools come from published guides to AI SEO tools that rank in Google search, a search for each tool's own site, and GitHub topics and search for open-source repos.

  2. 2

    Keep the SEO tools

A tool stays when its own website shows it does SEO work itself. Agencies, courses and general chat assistants are left out.

  3. 3

    Read the website

Each tool's own site is read against the same fifteen questions, from keyword research to an API or MCP server.

  4. 4

Say when we do not know

A site that does not say means "not enough info" on the listing, never a guess.

Every tool listed here was first named in a published guide to AI SEO tools that ranks in Google search in the United States, found by a search for the tool's own website, or found through GitHub topics and search for an open-source repo. Each tool's site, its Chrome Web Store page for a browser extension or its repository page for a GitHub repo was then read and answered against the same checklist: whether it does SEO work itself, the eight core jobs from keyword research to AI search visibility, and the practical questions buyers ask, such as a free plan, a free trial, an API or MCP server, a WordPress plugin, a browser extension and agency features.

A tool whose site did not show SEO work of its own was left out, along with agencies, courses, publications, general AI assistants and products that have shut down. Duplicates were merged so each tool appears once, and a browser extension has a listing of its own even when its maker has another tool listed. A GitHub repo was kept when it had at least 50 stars and an update since November 2024. The number of guides that name each tool sets the order inside a category, and GitHub stars set it for repos; neither measures how well a tool works. No tool was tested.

How to choose an AI SEO tool

AI SEO tools range from single-job tools to platforms that cover most of the work. Before you compare names, decide which job you are buying for, then read every listing's features grid the same way.

Start from the job, not the tool

Writing and optimizing pages, finding keywords, fixing a site's technical problems, tracking rankings, building links, working on local search and watching how AI assistants describe your brand are separate jobs, and each has its own category here. If you need three or four of them in one place, start with the all-in-one platforms. If you need one job done in depth, start with the category built for it.

Read the features grid

Every listing answers the same fifteen questions from the tool's own website. A check mark means the site states the feature, a cross means the site rules it out, and a feature the site does not mention is listed as "not enough info". That last line is not a no. Plenty of vendor sites leave things out, so ask the vendor before you rule a tool out.

Narrow the list with the filters

Every category page and feature page has filter buttons for a free plan, a free trial, a browser extension, a WordPress plugin and an API or MCP server. Press one or more to keep only the tools whose own sites confirm them. Inside a category, featured placements come first, then the tools named in the most published guides to AI SEO tools. That order measures attention, not quality, so use it to build a short list and never to make the final call.

Check the plan before the features

A feature on a vendor's homepage may sit on its most expensive plan. Once you have two or three candidates, open each vendor's pricing page and check which plan includes the features you need, how projects, keywords, pages or credits are counted, and whether a free plan or a free trial lets you test it on your own site first. The free tools and free trial pages list the tools that state either.

Plan for how the tool connects

If your team works with AI assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT, or with its own scripts and dashboards, look for an API or an MCP server, which lets an AI agent call the tool's data directly. If you publish on WordPress, a plugin saves copying drafts and fixes by hand. Agencies should look for white-label reports and client accounts.

Test on your own pages

Run the same keyword, page or domain through each candidate and compare what comes back. A tool that reads your own site well in a trial tells you more than a long feature list. Nothing in this directory has been tested by us, so the trial is where the real comparison happens.

Frequently asked questions

How are tools chosen for this directory?

Every tool here was named in a published guide to AI SEO tools that ranks in Google search, found by a search for its own website or found through GitHub search, and then read on its own site. A tool stays when its own site shows it does SEO work itself. Agencies, courses, publications and general AI chat assistants are left out, and duplicates are merged.

How are tools ordered on a category page?

Featured placements come first, then paid best-of positions, then every other tool by the number of published guides about AI SEO tools that name it; GitHub repos go by their GitHub stars. That count measures how often a tool is mentioned, not how well it works. The filter buttons on each category and feature page narrow the list to tools that confirm a free plan, a free trial, a browser extension, a WordPress plugin or an API or MCP server.

How is a tool's category decided?

Each tool sits in one category, set from what its own website says it does. A tool that covers four or more of the eight core jobs (keyword research, content optimization, AI writing, technical audits, rank tracking, backlinks, local SEO and AI search visibility) is an all-in-one platform. A tool built around one or two of them sits with the job it does first.

Which AI SEO tools have a free plan?

The Free AI SEO Tools page lists every tool that states a free plan or free tools on its own website, and the free trial page lists every tool that states a free trial. On any category page, the Free plan and Free trial filter buttons do the same inside that category. Check the vendor's pricing page for what each free tier includes.

Do you test the tools?

No. Each listing reports what the tool's own website states, and the features grid marks what the site confirms, what it rules out and what it does not say. Nothing here is a review. Check features, limits and pricing with the vendor before you buy.

Do tools pay to be listed?

No. A basic listing is free and stays free. Featured and best-of positions are paid placements, and they are marked as such wherever they appear. Vendors can claim their listing for free to correct details or add screenshots.
